American composer, flautist and multi-instrumentalist based in Athens for several years now, John Also Bennett (aka JAB) has been quietly shaping a body of work marked by serenity and contemplation, unfolding in a time without urgency — apparently still, yet always in motion. A regular collaborator of Christina Vantzou, he has developed a discreet and deeply coherent practice, with releases on labels such as Shelter Press, Kranky, and Seance Centre. Moving between minimalism, ambient, and transcendence, JAB weaves immersive tapestries from sparse but essential means like floating pads, hypnotic flute lines, field recordings, aqueous electronic textures, which, on the recent Στον Ελαιώνα / Ston Elaióna (Shelter Press, 2025), capture that threshold of dawn, between the memory of dreams and wakefulness.
